Harvard University Offers Free Tuition For Families Making Less Than $200K

Harvard University announced this week that it would offer free tuition for any student attending whose family makes less than $200,000 a year starting in the 2025-26 academic year.

Additionally, the institution said that students enrolled whose families have an annual income of $100,000 or less will be offered free housing, food, and health services.

Currently, it costs $56,550 a year to attend the school. Adding housing, food, and health services brings that total to $82,866, per the university.

“Putting Harvard within financial reach for more individuals widens the array of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that all of our students encounter, fostering their intellectual and personal growth,” Harvard University President Alan M. Garber said in a statement. “By bringing people of outstanding promise together to learn with and from one another, we truly realize the tremendous potential of the University.”

About 55% of Harvard undergraduates receive financial aid, ABC News noted.

“We know the most talented students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences, from every state and around the globe,” William R. Fitzsimmons, Harvard College’s dean of admissions and financial aid, said in a statement. “Our financial aid is critical to ensuring that these students know Harvard College is a place where they can be part of a vibrant learning community strengthened by their presence and participation.”

The new plan means that about 86% of United States families would qualify for financial aid from Harvard if accepted for admission. Most recently, the Ivy League school accepted 3.59% of the 54,000 applicants for the Class of 2028.

Harvard University’s Republican Club has seen an increase in signups recently, saying the group has quadrupled the number of members last year. The club previously had 40 to 50 active members.

“Harvard Republicans are thriving, something that couldn’t happen four years ago,” Harvard Republican Club President Michael Oved told The Daily Wire in September. “We no longer hide our Republican views, we embrace them. We wear it on our sleeves, proudly and people see that, and they become encouraged to do the same.”

This update comes as the university has been mired in controversy due to the administration’s and left-wing student groups’ reaction to Hamas’ October 7 brutal attack on Israeli civilians.
