Hollywood star Annett Bening said the quiet part out loud about having a trans-identifying kid and people are slamming her for the “narcissism” after she said that it makes her “more interesting.”
Outside the United States Supreme Court this week, the 66-year-old actress made the comments while speaking to proponents of transgender surgeries on children while justices heard oral arguments in United States v. Jonathan Skrmetti, a case dealing with Tennessee’s law banning irreversible gender transition procedures for children. Bening’s child, Stephen, is a trans-identifying female.
“I think I have the greatest gift of my life is to have kids, and to have a transgender child has made me so much more interesting, so much more wise,” Bening said.
“I have four beautiful children – and I’m allowed to brag about my children because they’re mine – and my eldest is a remarkable trans man, an extraordinary human being,” she added, the Daily Mail reported.
“As a well meaning parent, I didn’t always know how to support my teenager – my vulnerable teenager who was just trying to live his truth – but you know what? I learned. I learned that what these kids and families need is judicious counseling, sound medical advice and an atmosphere of calm and love and acceptance,” the actress continued.
The comments drew a ton of backlash against “The American President” star, the outlet noted.
“It’s almost as if actress [and] narcissist Annette Bening wanted a trans kid so she could be relevant again, so she created one,” one person wrote. “Children do NOT just decide to become transgender without coercion by an adult.”
Another added, “The selfishness here is ridiculous.”
While a third person wrote, “Hollywood narcissism is on full display as she lectures outside SCOTUS. Forget kids’ safety — she’s here for the spotlight. Disgusting.”
Daily Wire host Matt Walsh also spoke at a SCOTUS rally hosted by Do No Harm, an organization that fights radical gender ideology, while justices heard oral arguments in the monumental transgender case.
The Daily Wire host and “What is A Woman?” filmmaker has spent the last several years exposing the gender ideology industry, particularly through an investigation into Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s gender transition procedures for children. That September 2022 investigation prompted Tennessee lawmakers to bring forward legislation to protect children — the same legislation now central to the case.
