Tom Cotton Rips Kamala’s Promise To Secure The Border: ‘Like O.J. Simpson Promising To Find The Real Killer’

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) slammed Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, comparing her campaign promise to secure the U.S. southern border to O.J. Simpson saying he would find the killer of his former wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

During a rally in Arizona last week, Harris said that if elected president, she would push for “strong border security” and a “comprehensive reform” of the immigration system. At the beginning of President Joe Biden’s first term, he tapped Harris to lead the effort to address the “root causes” of illegal immigration. In June of 2021 when Harris had still not visited the southern border since becoming vice president, she deflectedwhen asked why she had not made the trek to the border, saying, “And I haven’t been to Europe.”

Cotton responded to Harris’ new campaign vow, writing, “Kamala Harris promising to secure the border is like O.J. Simpson promising to find the real killer.”

Harris has been blasted by Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, for her dismal record on the border. Under the Biden-Harris administration, reported border encounters have skyrocketed to around 10 million, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

Despite being a seemingly uncomfortable topic for Democrats, Harris has waded into the issue of illegal immigration, an area of policy on which former President Donald Trump has based much of his campaign. A recent voice-over ad for the Democratic presidential nominee stated, “As vice president, she backed the toughest border control bill in decades. And as president, she will hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking. Fixing the border is tough. So is Kamala Harris.”

Harris’ messaging on immigration appears to show a big shift for the Democratic nominee, who when running for president in 2020, said that entering the U.S. without proper documentation should not be a criminal offense. The Harris campaign now says that her position is “the same as the administration’s — unauthorized border crossings are illegal,” POLITICO reported.

Harris’ exact stance on illegal immigration and her proposals for how she will “secure the border” have been impossible to nail down as the vice president has yet to sit down for a major interview or hold a press conference since becoming the Democrats’ nominee. Her campaign website also does not list a policy platform.

Sen. Cotton remarked earlier on Tuesday, “Kamala Harris is hiding from the press because every time she speaks, she reminds the American people she is a radical San Francisco liberal.” He added, “We don’t need to speculate what Kamala would do as President–just look at the Biden-Harris record. Inflation, an open border, and chaos around the world.”
