Gavin Newsom Mocks ‘Open Process’ That Crowned Kamala The Democrats’ Nominee

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) responded to the Democratic Party’s eleventh-hour change-up — replacing President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris without a vote and just days before the Democratic National Convention kicked off — and although he cracked a few jokes about it, he did not appear to be completely sold on or thrilled with the arrangement.

Newsom — who had at one point been rumored to be on the short list of potential candidates the Democratic Party might choose from if Biden bowed out — joined the hosts of the podcast “Pod Save America” while at the DNC, and they pressed him about “the switch.”

“How are you feeling about the switch?” one of the hosts asked.

“I mean … the switch,” Newsom shrugged and laughed. “Now, we went through a very open process, a very inclusive process. It was bottom-up, I don’t know if you know that. Yes, that’s what I’ve been told to say.”

The hosts laughed at Newsom’s exaggerated tone. “It was a blitz primary, I believe that what we called it,” one said, and another chimed in, “A very very fast blitz.”

“A 30-minute convention,” Newsom continued. “You know, between a tweet and then another tweet —”

“It’s amazing how it happened,” one of the hosts laughed.

“Yeah, it’s been amazing, but you know what is amazing is how unified everybody is,” Newsom concluded. “I mean, it’s next level.”
