Federal law enforcement officials raided a business in Mississippi on Wednesday owned by Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens.
FBI agents seized evidence at Downtown Cigar Company in Jackson, which is owned by Owens — who is backed by Democrat megadonor George Soros.
WLBT reported that the FBI also raided Owens’ offices at the Hinds County Courthouse.
“The FBI is executing federal search warrants at the multiple locations,” said FBI Public Information Officer Marshay Lawson in a statement. “The affidavit in support of the search warrants has been sealed by the court and so I am prohibited from commenting further. There is no threat to public safety.”
Owens, a Democrat, previously served as the chief policy counsel and managing attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Mississippi Office, according to his website.
Soros-backed district attorneys are often the focus of intense criticism because of their selective enforcement of the law and woke policies as part of their bid to reshape the criminal justice system.
