‘I’m Not Crying, You Are’: Video Captures Federal Bureaucrats Reciting Diversity Poem

Federal bureaucrats from the Department of the Interior recorded themselves celebrating the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) agenda with a poetry recital that brought at least one government official to tears.

Video obtained by Daily Wire host Matt Walsh shows federal employees attending the federal agency’s “2023 Ally Awards,” where bureaucrats were recognized for their support of the DEI agenda. At the end of the virtual award ceremony, a presenter announced that employees of the agency had recorded a video of themselves reciting a poem.

“Now we would like to share a poem entitled ‘I am Diversity,’” a presenter said. “It really resonates with us and it incorporates a lot of the themes we learned about this week.”

“I’m present in every place you go. Depending on your lens, I’m friend or foe,” the bureaucrats say at the opening of the poem.

“Don’t exclude me due to a lack of knowledge. Welcome me like the recruit fresh out of college,” read one line of the poem. “Let me take a seat at the table, even though I may be differently able.”

“I’m diversity, embrace me and we’ll journey far. I’m diversity, include me and we’ll reach the shining star,” the rhyming poem went on to say.

“I’m not crying, you’re crying,” the host of the ceremony said after the poem had completed.

The recitation of the poem is just one of the many examples of the DOI pushing a leftwing ideological agenda. The Daily Wire reported last week that the agency celebrated “Transgender Day of Visibility” by screening a documentary on queer representation in the field of marine biology.

“Transgender Day of Visibility is an internationally recognized event that is celebrated annually on March 31st to help raise awareness and increase understanding of the challenges, importance and struggles of our transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming communities,” an internal email from the DOI reads.

The federal bureaucracy has been leveraged to push the DEI agenda as the Biden administration has worked to embed leftwing ideology throughout the government through executive orders.

Former President Donald Trump has pledged that he will gut the federal bureaucracy through executive orders of his own which aim to remove civil service protections from bureaucrats who occupy a position that impacts policymaking. “We will pass critical reforms making every executive branch employee fireable by the President of the United States,” Trump said at a rally, touting the plan. “The deep state must be brought to heel.

Biden hopes to preempt this move and recently implemented a policy intended to strengthen the civil service protections enjoyed by federal bureaucrats. Trump and his allies are still preparing to gut the bureaucracy, however, with the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 assembling a personnel database to take the place of outgoing bureaucrats.
