Top Biden Campaign Official On Biden Skipping Super Bowl Interview: ‘Made The Right Choice For Himself’

Mitch Landrieu, a top Biden administration official who now serves as the co-chair of Biden’s re-election campaign, dismissed concerns over President Joe Biden’s mental fitness after Biden refused to sit for a Super Bowl interview this year, a yearly tradition for U.S. presidents.

Landrieu made the remarks during a Sunday NBC News interview with Kristen Welker on “Meet The Press” when asked about Biden’s mental fitness given Special Counsel Robert Hur’s recent report that said Biden had serious memory problems and Biden’s subsequent disastrous press conference where he demonstrated those very problems.

When Landrieu claimed that Biden was “tough,” “smart,” and “on his game,” Welker responded: “Americans don’t agree with what you’re saying. In fact, our NBC News poll found that 76% of voters are concerned about whether the president has the necessary mental and physical health to be president for a second term.”

Welker noted that last week’s events have sparked panic within the party as donors and politicians look to each other and wonder what changes can happen before the 2024 presidential election happens in November.

“Was it a mistake for him not to do the Super Bowl interview, to miss talking to as many as 60 million people?” Welker asked.

“No. I don’t think so,” he responded. “I think people really want to watch a Super Bowl tonight and – and think about football. They don’t want to hear from a politician. So I think he made the right choice for himself at this time.”
