Biden, After Denying Border Crisis For Years: ‘Only Reason Border Is Not Secure Is Donald Trump’

President Joe Biden claimed during a White House press conference this week that if Congressional Republicans do not pass his highly controversial border bill, former President Donald Trump will be “the only reason the border is not secure.”

Biden made the remarks after setting numerous records during his presidency for the historic number of illegal aliens that have stormed through the southern border.

Biden, who repeatedly stated throughout his first three years in office that the border was secure and that there was no crisis, has now changed his views on the issue as polling ahead of the November elections shows that the overwhelming majority of the country, approximately 70%, disapproves of the way that he has handled the border and 61% blame him for the border crisis.

House Republicans passed a border security bill some 270 days ago, the Secure the Border Act, which has been sitting on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s desk ever since.

Seeking to deflect blame for the crisis, Biden said on Tuesday that Trump controls the Republicans in Congress and that if they do not pass the border bill, Trump will own the border crisis, even though Biden could declare a national emergency and shut down the border on his own.

“If the bill fails, I want to be absolutely clear about something, the American people are going to know why it failed,” he said. “I’ll be taking this issue to the country. And the voters are going to know that … just at the moment we’re going to secure the border and fund these other programs, Trump and the MAGA Republicans said, ‘no’, because they’re afraid of Donald Trump.”

“Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends,” Biden continued. “It’s time for Republicans in the Congress to show a little courage, to show a little spine, to make it clear to the American people that you work for them, not for anyone else.”
