“Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider is reportedly being investigated by the Secret Service for writing on X, in a since-deleted post, that President Joe Biden was “guilty of treason” and should be “publicly hung.”
An insider with knowledge told Deadline magazine that a “probe” into the 63-year-old actor’s comments is in the early stages, despite the actor hitting back at the idea he ever threatened the life of the president.
“We look at all threats against our protectees and, due to intent, this falls under the definition of a threat,” a law enforcement insider said, according to the outlet.
Schneider’s initial post was in response to Biden writing on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump “poses many threats to our country” including our democracy, adding that if Trump wins in 2024 “we lose that, we lose everything.”
The TV star replied, “Mr. President, I believe you are guilty of treason and should be publicly hung. Your son [Hunter Biden]
too. Your response is…? Sincerely John Schneider.”
When contacted about a Secret Service probe, Schneider asked Deadline “seriously” in his statement and said he “neither said nor implied any such” threat against Biden.
“Despite headlines claiming otherwise, in my post, I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president as many other celebrities have done in the past,” the statement read. “I suggest you re-read my actual post and pay attention to the words before believing this nonsense.”
“It’s my position, which I am entitled to have, that some of our nations [sic.] leaders in Washington have lost their way, and corruption runs rampant, both on our nation’s borders and abroad,” he added. “Transparency and accountability must happen in order for our constitutional republic to survive. There is no threat implied or otherwise in that statement.”
