MSNBC Host Says Democrats Admit Off-Air That Biden Is Too Old To Run For Second Term

Democrats concede off-air that they believe President Joe Biden is too old to seek another term in the White House, according to MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.

During his show on Wednesday, Scarborough talked about how Democrats will dismiss the age issue when on TV but privately express concerns about it when not on camera.

“Mika and I,” Scarborough said, referring to his wife and “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski, “everybody, we talk to — every political discussion, all it talks a lot about [former President Donald] Trump, but when it comes to Joe Biden, people say, ‘Man, he’s too old to run, isn’t he?'”

Scarborough, a former GOP congressman, emphasized that he did not mean “99%” of the discussions but rather “every” conversation. Rev. Al Sharpton, another MSNBC on-air personality, has been hearing the same kind of chatter, he added.

“We often will complain about Republicans who will say one thing about Donald Trump off the air and another on air. Well, let me just say, Democrats, off the air, will say ‘Joe Biden’s too old. Why is he running?’ On the air? They won’t say that,” Scarborough said.

Already the oldest person to be president at 80, Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term. His tendency to lose his train of thought while speaking and moments caught on camera where he has tripped or fallen over have spurred concerns about his ability to lead effectively.

Polls show a majority of voters, including among Democrats, are concerned that Biden is too old for another term. And voters have not given favorable approval ratings to Vice President Kamala Harris, who says she is ready to become president “if necessary.”

Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, who was making an appearance on “Morning Joe,” raised concerns about Biden’s age and Harris’ lack of popularity in a new opinion piece that called on the president to end his 2024 campaign for re-election.

Scarbrough said he wants to know who can do a better job as president than Biden and also defeat Trump at the ballot box. Trump, 77, is currently running for another term as president as the GOP frontrunner, setting up the prospect of a 2020 rematch with Biden.

“I don’t see a lot of Democrats out there … well I don’t see any Democrats out there right now that could do that,” Scarborough added.
