Gavin Newsom Refuses To Name Any Limits That Should Be Placed On Abortion

California Governor Gavin Newsom refused this week to name a single limit that should be placed on abortion and instead claimed that Republicans were making up false claims about what the Democratic Party believes on the issue.

Newsom made the remarks during a Monday interview with CNN’s Dana Bash when he was asked to “be clear about what limits on abortion should be.”

“It’s a political thing,” he responded. “People are not seeking abortion at the end of the cycle.”

When asked what the policy should be regarding limits on abortion, Newsom responded: “The policy, it’s not up to Donald Trump or me. It’s up to you, to women, that have to bear that responsibility uniquely and distinctly.”

“And the reality is, it’s a canard,” he claimed. “It’s a political frame. It’s total BS. And it’s exactly where they need to go because they know they’ve gone too far on the other side.”

A short time later, Bash, noting that Newsom said it was not the government’s role to be involved on the issue, asked: “So there should be nothing on the books?”

“This is a canard. This is a false flag,” he claimed. “This is where they need to go in order to get out of the mess they’ve created because they don’t believe in fundamental choice and freedom for women. They don’t. Period, full stop.”

Bash again asked Newsom if his official stance was that governments should not “have any limits on the books legally.”

Newsom said that he believes in viability and claimed that “no one wants to see late-term abortions.”

“No one’s out there promoting that. That’s not what the Democratic Party’s position is. It’s not where my personal position is,” he claimed. “In those rare and extremely rare and personal circumstances, one thing I absolutely believe, Donald Trump shouldn’t be making that decision. I sure as hell should not be making that decision.”
