Cruz Blasts DOJ Over Charges Against Hunter Biden: They Are ‘Protecting Joe Biden’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) slammed the U.S. Department of Justice late this week for the charges it brought against President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, arguing that special counsel David Weiss effectively insulated the White House.

Hunter Biden was indicted on three charges this week related to false statements that he made on a federal background check form to purchase a firearm. Two of the counts carry max sentences of 10 years in prison, while the third carries a max sentence of 5 years.

Cruz said on his “Verdict” podcast that he had warned about this very situation happening where if “the indictment that came in was a personal offense limited to Hunter Biden, if it was a drug offense, if it was a gun offense, if it was a personal tax offense, that was limited to Hunter himself, then that was by design, to insulate Joe Biden.”

“This is not about Hunter Biden, if his name was Hunter Smith, if he was just some poor, sad sack, dealing with addiction and substance abuse, nobody would care, it wouldn’t be national news, it wouldn’t be a matter of public concern,” Cruz said. “The reason this matters is because there’s considerable evidence that Hunter Biden solicited and received tens of millions of dollars from corrupt foreign players in exchange for official favors from his dad, Joe Biden, now the president of the United States, that’s what matters.”

Cruz said that he absolutely believes that Hunter Biden committed the crimes he’s been charged with but added that “this is all about insulating Joe Biden. Joe Biden does not bear any liability for Hunter being on crack while he illegally buys a gun.”

“That’s a bad development for Hunter,” he added. “But the purpose of this is to insulate the White House and to let the Biden DOJ say, ‘see, we indicted a Biden, aren’t we tough?’ and they’re deliberately carving off and protecting Joe, who is the reason that the public rightfully cares about this.”
