California man says his wife was stabbed to death after asking couple doing drugs to move away from their kids' window

A man says that his wife was stabbed to death after she asked a couple to move away from her kids' bedroom window because they were doing drugs.

Cody Weems told KABC-TV that his 28-year-old wife, Shawna Weems, confronted the two people on Monday at about 12:38 a.m. in front of their apartment in Hemet, California.

He said that the woman instead pulled out a knife and stabbed his wife several times.

"She was my wife; she was my best friend, my rock, my soul, the mother to my children ... just everything," said Cody Weems.

"Just get the person that did it behind bars and serve justice. That is all I want," he added. "I don't want anything else. I just want the woman caught."

The alleged attacker and the man fled from the scene in a silver Nissan truck pulling a recreational vehicle, and Shawna Weems was transported to a hospital where she died.

Brooke Blackford, a friend of the victim, told KABC that Shawna had only been trying to protect her three children.

"She would do anything for her kids, to protect them, so that they didn't have to see things. She was always wanting to protect her kids," she said.

The Hemet Police Department said they were investigating leads related to the murder. Neighbors said that there had been a lot of problems coming from people doing drugs in recreational vehicles in the area.

GoFundMe account has raised more than $12K for the surviving family to move from the apartment.

"The greatest wife I could ever imagine," said Cody Weems to KNBC-TV. "The greatest daughter to her dad. She was such a good woman."

Hemet is a city of 90,000 people in Riverside County about 86 miles east of Los Angeles.
