A woman who seemingly came from Australia went on a tirade in a TikTok video decrying the ubiquity of the American flag around the United States, prompting Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott to fire back a succinct four-word response.
“I’m just gonna say it; there are too many American flags,” the young woman declared. “Like they’re on houses; they’re on cars; saw them on couch cushions. Like I don’t know who’s making these American flags, but they’d be making a bloody fortune, and like, you’re the only country I know that does this, like.”
“The only time I think I’ve ever seen an Australian flag is on the Harbour Bridge,” she continued, referring to the bridge in Sydney, Australia that spans Sydney Harbour from the central business district to the North Shore. “Could not tell you what it looks like. Like, I know what it’s like, blue, and it’s got some stars on it, but I think I could draw the American flag from memory, like I think I can make a bloody sculpture out of it. That’s how many times I’ve seen it. It’s enough.”
“Let’s pull back on it, okay? Let’s stay humble,” she concluded.
Abbott snapped, “Go back to Australia.”

FMMA also states that 94% of American flags are manufactured in the U.S.
On June 14, to honor Flag Day, Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz joined Reps. Mike Johnson (R-LA) Troy Balderson (R-OH) Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Greg Landsman (D-OH) to introduce legislation requiring American flags displayed on federal property or obtained by federal agencies to be totally manufactured in the United States from American materials.
“The American flag is a symbol of freedom and hope for Texans, Americans, and the world,” Cruz stated. “We should be making our flags in the Land of the Free …”
