DOJ, FBI, IRS ‘Keep This Democracy In Check’: Democrat Snaps During Biden Family Investigation

A Democrat Congressman from Maryland excoriated Republicans for their investigation into how the Department of Justice and FBI handled the Hunter Biden investigation, declaring that those agencies, as well as the IRS, “keep this democracy in check.”

Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-MD) spoke during the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into the Biden family.

“We’re spending our time talking about Hunter Biden, someone who has already pleaded guilty to not filing his taxes, having a gun charge, and now I hear also paying for prostitution,” Mfume noted.

“Now, here’s what galls me,” he fumed. “I don’t like these attacks on the Department of Justice, the FBI, the IRS, as if they are somehow anti-U.S. agencies. Those agencies keep this democracy in check. They provide the checks and they provide the balance.”

As he concluded his time before the committee, he snapped, “This is ludicrous. Beam me up, Scotty. There’s no intelligent life down here. None.”

The hearing featured two IRS whistleblowers, special agent Joseph Ziegler and his supervisor Gary Shapley, testifying on the ongoing investigation into the Biden family, alleging there had been obstruction.

Shapley told Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) of his attempt to interview Hunter Biden in December 2020: “The FBI, SSA and I were assigned with interviewing Hunter Biden that day. The day previous we went to the FBI LA field office and asked the special agent in charge to contact the Secret Service special agent in charge for the LA field office at 8 a.m. on the morning of December 8 and tell them that two agents were going to approach Hunter Biden as part of an official investigation. The night before, all of that changed.”

“And all of that changed because FBI headquarters and Secret Service headquarters coordinated and that information had gotten out to everybody the night before,” Armstrong added. “There was another group of people that was made aware of that the night before, wasn’t there.”

“That’s correct,” Shapley answered.

“And that would be the transition team,” Armstrong finished.

“That’s correct,” Shapley agreed.

“They have any special investigative powers I don’t know about?” Armstrong asked.

“Not that I would know of,” Shapley replied.

“Last question: did you ever get to interview Hunter Biden?” Armstrong asked.

“We did not,” Shapley replied.
