Fox News Reportedly Fires Geraldo Rivera From ‘The Five’

Fox News has reportedly fired television veteran Geraldo Rivera from the network’s “The Five.”

“Bumpy day on the North Atlantic. Anyway, I got fired from @TheFive so I quit Fox,” Rivera wrote on Twitter. “After 23 years tomorrow ‘Fox and Friends’ could be my last appearance on the network. Thanks for the memories.”

In a video posted Thursday afternoon, Rivera said that he would have more to say about the matter during his expected appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning.

Rivera announced last week that he was leaving the show, although he did not say at the time that he had been fired.

“Morning, it’s official, I’m off @TheFive,” he wrote on Twitter at the time. “My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th. It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity. Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large.”

Rivera told the Associated Press last week that he was leaving “The Five” amid “a growing tension that goes beyond editorial differences and personal annoyances and gripes.”

“It has been a rocky ride but it has also been an exhilarating adventure that spanned quite a few years,” he said. “I hope it’s not my last adventure.”

He said that leadership at the company “didn’t race after me to say, ‘Geraldo, please come back.’”

The 79-year-old ex-friend of former President Donald Trump said that “under no circumstances do I think Donald Trump should be president of the United States again, and that’s an important message I am committed to bringing to the American people between now and November 2024.”

He said that his views about Trump caused “friction” on the show.

“I’m 80 years old,” he said. “I don’t want the friction. ‘The Five’ is too intimate a place and it gets too personal.”
