Blue Jays Pitcher Slams United Airlines For Making Pregnant Wife Clean Kids’ Mess On Flight, Ignites Online Debate

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass set off a huge debate online after he complained that his pregnant wife was forced to clean up her children’s mess following a United Airlines flight.

“The flight attendant [United] just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?!” the 35-year-old pro ball player shared with followers on Monday.

He also posted an image showing his kids sitting on the plane with popcorn spilled underneath their seats.

Bass’s tweet has since gone viral, racking up 55 million views.

Commenters were divided on who was in the right, with most commenters arguing that parents should clean up after their children on a plane. A few followers insisted that airlines hired cleaning crews for this exact situation.

“Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made? As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them,” one social media user tweeted, which prompted Bass to reply, “The cleaning crew they hire!”

“Won’t lie, the fact that the flight attendant had the guts to make the passenger clean up their own MESS kinda makes me wanna fly United more,” another account wrote.

“Just because you’re rich doesn’t mean everyone is your servant. I hope this helps,” another reply said.

“This is the most pretentious, arrogant, self-absorbed tweet of all time,” another user posted. “How dare parents have to clean up after their children’s mess? Good God, the more athletes tweet, the more I really don’t want to watch professional sports anymore.”

The father of two later posted an update. “United Airlines is taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally,” he wrote. “Thank you everyone for the support,” Bass added, even though the majority of the commenters disagreed with his outrage.

Bass is married to the sister of country pop singer Jessie James Decker, who also shared on social media about the incident.

“My sister [Sydney] just texted me from her flight on [United],” Decker wrote on Instagram. “As you know, she is five months pregnant, high risk, and also traveling alone with her two small children.”

She continued, “Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag, and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop.”

Decker said her “poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle completely humiliated and exhausted with her child
