Democrat House Majority Whip James Clyburn Steps Down From Leadership

House Democrat Majority Whip James Clyburn (SC) on Thursday stepped down from leadership to make room for the younger and more radical Democrat lawmakers.

Clyburn stepping down is making room for Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar to make their way up the ranks to leadership positions.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer retired from his position too.

“I have decided not to seek elected leadership in the 118th Congress – it is time for me to continue my service in a different role. I intend to return to the Appropriations Committee to continue my work focusing on education, health care, and our workers.” Hoyer said.

House Speaker Pelosi also announced she will not be seeking a leadership position in the new Congress.

“Now we must move boldly into the future,” Pelosi said. “The hour has come for a new generation,” Pelosi said.

“With great confidence in our caucus, I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress,” she said.

House Democrats are promoting the younger (and more radical) members to leadership positions.

Steny Hoyer is 83 years old.

Nancy Pelosi is 82 years old.

James Clyburn in 83 years old.

The next 80-year-old to get thrown into the garbage can is Joe Biden.
