An Indiana man was armed with not only one gun, but two guns, yet apartment residents were able to disable him with ease and put a stop the the attempted robbery.
Marrell B. Tyler, 18, allegedly broke into the Annex of Kokomo Apartments around 3:25 a.m. on Thursday. He seemingly thought he would easily rob the residents since he concealed his identity with a ski mask and was armed with two guns, according to police. However, he apparently never considered that his own firearms would be used against him.
Tyler reportedly broke into an apartment in the complex in Kokomo. But he busted into the wrong apartment.
The three male residents of the apartment allegedly fought back and successfully took possession of Tyler's gun, police say. That's when Tyler pulled out a second firearm, but the residents fought back again. A bullet was fired during the struggle, but thankfully nobody was shot. The residents were able to eventually disarm the would-be robber.
Instead of stealing prized possessions, all Tyler got was his face rearranged. The residents allegedly roughed up Tyler pretty severely and pinned him down. The residents used Tyler's own weapons to detain him at gunpoint until police arrived at the crime scene.
Tyler was transported to the Community Howard Hospital for multiple facial injuries as seen in his bloody mugshot. He was arrested by officers from the Kokomo Police Department and later booked into the Howard County Criminal Justice Center.
Tyler, of Merrillville, Indiana, was charged with a second-degree felony of burglary.
The three unidentified residents have not been charged for defending their home. Authorities said the residents also suffered facial injuries but did not require medical attention from the physical altercation.
Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to contact the Kokomo Police Department Hotline at 765-456-7017.
