Disney Shanghai Closes Due to Covid Surge

Shanghai Disney temporarily closed on Monday due to a surge in Covid cases in China.

“We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation and consult local authorities, and will notify guests as soon as we have a confirmed date to resume operations,” the park said in a statement to Fox 5.

Fox 5 NY reported:

Shanghai Disney says it will be temporarily closed to the public starting Monday in response to another surge of COVID-19 cases sweeping China.

The theme park said the closure will remain in effect until further notice and includes the main resort, the shopping complex Disneytown, and Wishing Star Park, a recreational area.

Guests who have been impacted will be provided a refund or exchange.

Shanghai Disney’s closing comes as China is facing its biggest outbreak of COVID-19 since the initial outbreak in Wuhan in late 2019.

A ‘major’ Covid outbreak in China led to another lockdown last week.

The cases are still low compared to 2020, however China is enforcing its “zero tolerance” rules for Covid.

China locked down 51 million people amid a Covid outbreak in the northeastern province of Jilin and the southern cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan.

According to the AP, China mobilized its military to help contain the new outbreak.

Germany also sounded the alarm last Monday and said Covid has “reached a critical level after the number of infections rose to a record high this week.”
