Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech included many gaffes and embarrassing moments, inlcuding when he stated that Russia will never ‘gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian people’ when discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
One moment that didn’t get much coverage was when the President made a big push to cap insulin prices, and the ensuing hypocrisy from a move he made in the first 90 days of his presidency. USA Today Reports–
“President Joe Biden called for capping out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35 a month and setting higher standards under Medicare for nursing homes during his first State of the Union speech.
Biden renewed his call for lowering insulin costs during the speech before both chambers of Congress on Tuesday. While the stalled Build Back Better Act capped insulin costs, it only applied to Medicare beneficiaries.
“Imagine what it’s like to look at your child who needs insulin and have no idea how you’re going to pay for it,” Biden said. “Let’s cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month so everyone can afford it.”
The first lady even made one of her guests a 13 year old child with Type 1 Diabetes who is now an advocate for lowering insulin prices.
Despite this, President Biden reversed an exceutive order that Trump made that was aimed at lowering insulin prices in the first days of his Presidency. One Twitter user made this apt observation during his speech:
After initially putting a pause on the rule that would have capped prices for insulin, Biden rescinded the order entirely in October of 2021.
