At least five people were injured in a shooting that took place outside of an Arizona mall on Wednesday afternoon, according to various reports.
Three of the five people shot were juveniles. All five were hospitalized as a result of the incident, which was said to be isolated and to have involved two separate parties.
None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
What are the details?
According to reports, the incident unfolded after two groups of people squared off against each other outside of Tanger Outlets in Glendale, Arizona, on Wednesday.
A male suspect armed with a handgun reportedly got into an altercation with a group of juveniles, and the confrontation, Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Ngalula said, eventually resulted in a shooting. Witnesses said that shoppers scurried to all corners of the property in order to avoid being hit with flying bullets as gunshots rang out.
A report from KTVK-TV stated that Ngalula said that the male was "with a woman and a small child when he got into a fight with a group of young people and it escalated into a shootout."
“Our first officers on scene — they were very affected by it," she said. "I don’t know if they have children or not but as you can imagine, seeing a small child be struck by gunfire is very traumatic. They did do CPR but I can tell you that child is stable now."
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the five people involved in the incident.
A preliminary investigation recovered two handguns — one belonging to the adult male, and one a juvenile reportedly had on their person.
No arrests have been made at the time of this reporting, and agencies assisting Glendale police in the investigation include the Phoenix branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Fires and Explosives.
