Remember Megan Rapinoe, the far-left, anti-Trump soccer player that made a fool of herself and the US women’s soccer team when they went on a long rant about deserving more money and then got utterly obliterated in the Olympics?
Well, she just got embarrassed yet again, this time by getting kicked off of the roster for the “SheBelieves Cup” because she performed so terribly during the summer Olympics. Yes, that’s right: the woman that claimed she was worth, from a financial perspective, just as much as the average dude soccer player just got kicked off the roster because she’s so bad.
ESPN reported on that, not willing to say that Rapinoe was left off the roster because of her terrible performance but hinting that that was the case. In its words:
U.S. women’s national team coach Vlatko Andonovski has called up a squad that mixes youth and experience for this month’s SheBelieves Cup, leaving out big names like Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan in favor of up-and-comers like Sophia Smith and Ashley Sanchez.
[…]”It doesn’t mean that all these players that have done well in the past are just going to come back here in the next camp because they’ve done well a year ago or two years ago,” Andonovski added. “There’s a reason why we’re not calling Mia Hamm or Julie Foudy in camp, right? So the same goes here: they need to perform, they need to play in their markets, they need to play well in their markets, and show that they can still contribute and be valuable for the national team.“
That bolded phrase, “show that they can still contribute and be valuable for the national team,” is an important one, as it hints at the reality of what’s going on here: the coach can claim that the reason Rapinoe and others were left on the team is to make room for younger players to prove themselves, but there’s obviously more going on.
That “more” is that Rapinoe is a lightning rod that played badly during the Olympics and thus isn’t worth the trouble of including on the roster; she’ll draw controversy by saying some ridiculous thing or another and then play terribly, thus being far more of a liability than an asset to her team.
That’s particularly bad news for Rapinoe, as she’s already old for the sport and isn’t getting any younger. As the Western Journal notes:
Rapinoe would turn 38 before the next Women’s World Cup, which is set to begin on July 20, 2023, in Australia and New Zealand. She already became the oldest player ever to score in a Women’s World Cup Final in 2019, CBS Sports reported.
While it is not impossible for someone that age to play in the World Cup, she would certainly be one of the oldest players in the tournament if she made the roster.
So, it turns out that “get woke, go broke” applies to women’s soccer too: Rapinoe is getting obliterated after going woke and playing badly.
