Back in January, when news of actor Jussie Smollet‘s “hate crime” first broke, GQ Magazine took it upon itself to berate right-wingers for being racist and homophobic. After Smollett was taken to court over allegations that he staged the hate crime, GQ changed their headline and added an Editor’s Note to apologize for applying “unfounded political motivations” to the story before all the facts had been released. The article title, initially “The Racist, Homophobic Attack on Jussie Smollett is Far-Right America’s Endgame”, has been changed to “The Racist, Homophobic Attack on Jussie Smollett is America’s Endgame”.
The article itself, however, remains unchanged despite the court finding Smollett guilty of fabricating the entire incident to purposely frame White Trump supporters.
The article condemns the Chicago police for labeling the incident as a “possible hate crime”, insisting this “cautious wording” of the police statement represents the police force’s resistance to exposing racism. However, in reality, the police were still in the process of an investigation and, unlike Liberal media, did not jump to conclusions about the reported events before all facts were made available.
The author of this heinous and inaccurate opinion piece, Joshua Rivera, labels right-wingers as terrorists who refuse to acknowledge bigotry. Rivera also insists that White Americans have an endgame: to instill fear in minority groups and avoid all blame for their wrongdoings.
The GQ story is now published with a new editor’s note at the top which apologizes for jumping to conclusions and making politically-charged accusations without checking the facts. The article headline was also changed to eliminate the false accusations thrown at right-wing Americans. The note reads, “In the original version of this piece, published January 29, before allegations that actor Jussie Smollett had perpetrated a hoax, GQ made two errors in editorial judgment. We failed to clearly present the post as an opinion piece. And we regret applying unfounded political motivations to then-breaking news with the original headline: “The Racist, Homophobic Attack on Jussie Smollett Is Far-Right America’s Endgame.” We have altered the headline, but have otherwise left the original post unaltered.”
