Michigan's attorney general owned up to drinking too much before last month's widely-anticipated college football game between in-state rivals Michigan and Michigan State in a self-deprecating Facebook post that she has dubbed 'Tailgate-gate.'
Dana Nessel wrote in a lengthy Facebook post Wednesday that she overestimated how much alcohol she could handle while tailgating at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing on October 30, and she even included a photo of herself slumped in a seat in the stands with a Michigan hat covering her face.
Nessel, a Democrat, said she had two Bloody Marys on an empty stomach while attending a tailgate party before Michigan State rallied to defeat Michigan 37-33 in a battle of then-undefeated Big 10 teams.
She joked that 'as long as you put enough vegetables in them, it's practically a salad.'

After tailgating a bit too hard, the Michigan graduate said she attended the game but remembers practically nothing - especially that her alma mater lost - because she left early after feeling sick.
'I proceeded to go to the game (which I’m told Michigan definitely won!) and started to feel ill,' she wrote. 'I laid low for a while, but my friends recommended that I leave so as to prevent me from vomiting on any of my constituents (polling consistently shows “Roman showers” to be unpopular among most demographics).'
She said she was assisted in getting up the stairs and then someone 'grabbed a wheelchair so as to prevent me from stumbling in the parking lot.'
Nessel said she was driven home, where she was taken care of by her wife.
The next day, October 31, Nessel posted a photo to Twitter of her ahead of the big game with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, writing: 'That time I tried to make @GovWhitmer switch kids with me.'

Michigan State Spartans placekicker Matt Coghlin (No. 4) hoists the Paul Bunyan trophy following the Michigan State Spartans win on October 30
In a Facebook post, AG Nessel recounted how she overestimated how much she could alcohol she could handle while tailgating at a Michigan State football game at Spartan Stadium
Nessel ended her epic admission by acknowledging her embarrassing behavior in public and promising to do better in the future.
'I am human. Sometimes I screw up,' she said. 'This was definitely one of those times. My apologies to the entire state of Michigan for this mishap, but especially that Michigan fan sitting behind me. Some things you can't un-see.'
Nessel's constituents seemed to appreciate her sense of humor about the situation and cut her some slack.
'Well this was an unexpected and amazingly honest post! Hold your head up high and go blue! Those Bloody Mary salads have taken many down…' someone commented.
Someone else wrote: 'No apology necessary. Minor personal matter. You are excelling as A G so just keep up the tremendous work!!!!!!!'
Nessel has said she is running for reelection in 2022.
