US tourist horrifies French foodies by declaring POTATO restaurant chain served the best food he had while on vacation in France in lengthy Twitter tribute to 'amazing and perfect' meal

An American tourist has horrified French people online with his very gushing review of a fast-food chain.

Steve Olson, from Oakland who was vacationing in France with his partner, was blown-away by a restaurant chain called La Pataterie, which only served potato-based meals, and shared a rave review on Twitter

His enthusiastic praise of the jacket potato he ate at the restaurant caught the eye of French foodies, who couldn't believe that in spite of the stellar reputation of French gastronomy around the world, a tourist would be so enthusiastic about oven-baked stodge.

Steve was mocked mercilessly by the French online, who recommended other poor quality French fast-food places, pretending they were high end restaurants.

Steve has been enjoying French cuisine during his holiday, sharing pictures of sandwiches, tacos and other treats with his followers on Twitter.

He explained his partner found the Pataterie while the couple were looking for a place to grab dinner.

Repeating several times that the dinner had been amazing, Steve shared the restaurant's menu, and went on to describe his pick.

'That’s a giant-a** baked potato, but a GLORIOUSLY baked one. And I don’t know what type, but guessing something like a giant Yukon Gold steamed and baked to creamy. Tender, but still with structure perfection,' he said.

The French were not impressed with Steve's raving review, with some saying they couldn't believe Steve was saying that a restaurant chain was the most amazing restaurant he tried in France

'I peed when I bit into it. There was a descending choir of angels. The angels were singing “Bonnie and Clyde” by Serge Gainsbourg and Bardot.

'Seriously, this was the greatest potato ever made by human hands, and we got it at what I have to assume is the French equivalent of a “Chili’s”. Words cannot express my amazement,' he added.

He also described the dishes his fellow diners with the same amount of enthusiasm. and it was not long before the French caught wind of Steve's enthusiastic review of a fast-food joint.

Most of them couldn't believe that Steve was blown-away by a fast-food chain while holidaying in France, which is particularly known for its high end cuisine.

'I'm sorry If La Pataterie is the best restaurant for you, USA must be the worst place for food on the earth,' one said.

'Seriously? You guys come to visit France, homeland of gastronomy, and the most amazing restaurant you found is a chain,' another scoffed.

'Settled in some factory warehouse-like building? It is a good chain, OK, for a cafeteria, but you may find much more amazing places to eat - in FRANCE,' they added.

'If you want to taste French foods.... that's not the good place,' one said.

'The guy comes to France and his tasting reference is the Pataterie. My France hurts,' another said.

People poked fun at Steve by recommending similar French fast-food chains, pretending they were high end

Others poked fun at Steve by recommending similar chains which are regarded by the French as low-end eating places.

'Wait till you meet Chez Paul at a train station during a rail strike with damp floor and a dry salmon sandwich or a Mie Caline,' one said.

'Steve, you are being absolutely roasted by French Twitter it's awesome.'

'Have you ever tried Courtepaille ? Or Buffalo Grill ?? What about Flunch,' another asked.

'We have another French Chain which is amazing. It's called McDonald's France,' another said.

Bewildered French people asked whether Steve was being sarcastic and said they couldn't believe he had come all the way to France to rave about La Pataterie

'If I may, I would suggest you to try Courtepaille restaurant. One of the best piece of French gastronomy you could never eat it,' one said, talking about a similar chain.

However, many people came to Steve's defense and said that as long as he liked the Pataterie, it was all that mattered.

'Thank you for your thread, it was hilarious from a French perspective, but in a really sweet way ! You guys made my day, merci,' one said.

'Let the man enjoy his patate,' said another.

'This was pure gold,' one wrote.
