'Who shot Ashli Babbitt?' Trump demands answers on Capitol riot shooting death of MAGA supporter

Donald Trump has demanded to know who was responsible for shooting and killing Ashli Babitt at the Capitol on January 6.

'Who shot Ashli Babbitt?' Trump put simply in a statement on Thursday after Nancy Pelosi announced the makeup of the select committee to look into the Capitol Riot.

Unarmed Navy veteran Babbitt, 35, was shot and killed when she tried to breach a door leading to the House chamber when protesters stormed the Capitol.

The identity of the officer who shot and killed Babbitt has been shielded from the public despite multiple demands and the threat of a lawsuit from her family.

Her family have filed a $10million lawsuit against the officer and the Capitol Police and a separate case demanding the name is released.

The Department of Justice announced in April they would not bring charges against the officer responsible because there was 'insufficient evidence' they 'violated civil rights'.

An investigation also claimed the shooting was 'necessary' in and the officer acted in 'self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber'.

Republicans in the House have also stepped up their demands for the name to be released.

On May 12, Paul Gosar told former Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen who 'executed' Babitt, but didn't get an answer.

Babbitt's was the only death ruled a homicide on the day of the riot.

Capitol cop Brian Sicknick died a day later of natural causes from a stroke and colleagues Jeffrey Smith and Howard Liebengood died by suicide.

Kevin McCarthy blasted Liz Cheney as 'closer' to Democrats than Republicans on Thursday after she accepted a committee assignment from Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the panel probing the January 6 Capitol attack.

'I was shocked that she would accept something from Speaker Pelosi,' the Minority Republican leader said during a press conference on Thursday morning.

'It would seem to me is, since I didn't hear from her, maybe she's closer to her than us,' he continued in claiming Cheney might be more aligned with Pelosi now than her fellow Republicans in Congress.

Pelosi announced Thursday morning that Cheney had accepted her appointment to the select committee created to investigate the Capitol riot on January 6, which Democrats blame Donald Trump for inciting.

Cheney told reporters at the Capitol while standing alongside Democrats on the committee: 'Our oath to the Constitution, our duty, our dedication to the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power has to come above any concern about partisanship or about politics.'

'We have an obligation to have a thorough, sober investigation of what happened leading up to January 6 and the attack on the Capitol that day,' she added.

A report emerged Thursday morning that McCarthy warned Republicans in a Wednesday meeting that if they accept a Pelosi assignment to the panel, they should no longer come to him for other committee assignments.
